Rounding up the cattle in the Allgäu
The chiming of cowbells heralds the approach of the herd as they wend their way back down to the valley from their summer pastures high on the mountains. Together with the herdsman, the lead cow with her headdress of flowers heads up the herd as the move slowly back to their winter quarters in the village. A centuries-old tradition that is still as moving and beautiful today as ever.
