Nagelfluhkette Nature Park
Round weathered rocks – of all shapes and sizes, scattered all over the uplands of the Allgäu, cliffs rising high above your head. There’s nothing quite like it anywhere in Germany. The Nagelfluhkette Nature Park has remained unchanged for many, many centuries and is still as bizarre and impressive as it was way back then. Nature as Mother Earth intended it to be!
The Cheese Road
For centuries, cheese has been an integral part of the cultural landscape of the Allgäu and the adjoining Bregenzerwald. The dairy industry on the Alps and mountains of the Alps is legendary – cheese and milk are an integral part of day-to-day life. Experience this tradition first hand. Walk up to the mountain pastures, watch cheese makers at work and take some cheese back with you to enjoy at home.
Rounding up the cattle in the Allgäu
The chiming of cowbells heralds the approach of the herd as they wend their way back down to the valley from their summer pastures high on the mountains. Together with the herdsman, the lead cow with her headdress of flowers heads up the herd as the move slowly back to their winter quarters in the village. A centuries-old tradition that is still as moving and beautiful today as ever.
